An eccentric girl with a secret of her own forces a piano prodigy who lost his ability to play after experiencing a traumatic event in his childhood back into the spotlight.

The story revolves around pianist Arima Kousei. He hasn't played, though, since he did so for his mother, who passed away a few years ago. At the park one day, Arima runs into a talented violinist. She tries to reintroduce Arima to music after they first meet.

The competition was won by piano prodigy Arima Kousei, who was well-known to all young musicians. But after his mother, who was also his teacher, passed away, he suffered a mental breakdown while playing at a recital, and even though his hearing was fine, he was no longer able to hear the sound of his piano. Kousei hasn't picked up the piano in even two years, and he has a flat, uninteresting perspective on the world. With his close friends Tsubaki and Watari, he was happy to live out his days together until a girl abruptly changed everything. Miyazono Kaori is a charming and spirited violinist, and her playing style is a reflection of who she is. In contrast to the structured, rigid style Kousei was used to, Kaori assists Kousei in returning to the music industry and demonstrating that it should be free and mold breaking.
